On February 18, I changed my registration from Democrat to Independent. I was not thinking about running for Congress. But as I watched the Democratic leadership lead America into the wilderness of big government and new socialist programs, I knew the very future and greatness of our country was threatened.
Early in my life I gained respect for the Democratic Party for it had brought dignity and hope to my family. Today I believe the Democratic Party has abandoned its ideals and vision. The party of the Working Man has become the party of the Welfare Man. Democrats trust government more than they trust the American people.
I was a member of the Democratic Party all my life, but there comes a time when the people come first and not big government. I go to Congress not to start a career, but to help set America free, to ensure that our children and grandchildren will be able to live the American dream.
